I am delighted, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers, to welcome you to the new website of Aqoon School-Home Support Service.
You will be able to see the work Aqoon is doing now and what we have done in the past as part of our “Make Difference and Make Impact” principles that we work to.
For more than a decade, Aqoon has continued to deliver a number of highly successful projects, including mentoring and pastoral support programmes for pupils who have been or are at risk of school exclusion, complementary education programmes for young people of both primary and secondary school age, parent/carer support and participation programmes and awareness raising workshops for schools and staff in other educational support agencies.
We pride ourselves on our commitment to working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders and to the quality of the provision we provide, so we are delighted that it has been recognised that in most cases, Aqoon has had a considerable and evidenced positive impact on the outcomes for the children, young people, families and staff that we work with.
Some of the key successes and contributions of Aqoon through our school-based mentoring and coaching as well as community-based interventions include raising the attainment of pupils attending our complementary classes and the delivery of early preventatives programmes for young people who are at risk of school exclusions.
A famous Somali proverb says, “Far Kaliya Fool Ma dhaqdo” (one finger cannot wash a face), and it is clear that the successes of the projects and programmes we have delivered would not have been achievable without the buy in and support of our beneficiaries, partners and the community as a whole, and for that we are extremely grateful.
I am overwhelmingly pleased with the results and the impact my team, of whom I am very proud, have made since Aqoon was established and I hope you will enjoy learning about some of it on our new website.
